Noticed COD is now asking for a username and password for its Metar,Upper air and Synoptic raw data.
Is this a permanent change does anybody know and have we lost another data stream ?

Getting the same thing here but I've not had a chance to have a proper look yet, so just turned off Digatmos for now.

Statement about this on the COD website:
https://weather.cod.edu/analysis/
Attention User:
Update (9/25/2024 20:24:10): Due to recent security requests from our IT department we are no longer going to be able to provide open/unauthenticated access to browsable data directories. Namely this affects our Digital Atmosphere data at
https://weather.cod.edu/digatmos. We are still able to grant authenticated access which will require us to register users. If you previously used any of this data, please write us using our
feedpage form and request "access to digital atmosphere data". We will manually register users per request and provide instructions on how to automate data retrieval going forward. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience with these changes.

I see the data is available again this morning from COD (just as Northern Illinois went down!) without a password.
In fact the update is:
Update (10/1/2024 08:38:14): We have appealed the decision made by our IT department to lock open directories under specific permissible conditions. Specifically this has allowed us to re-open
https://weather.cod.edu/digatmos. Thank you to all of you who wrote in, politely asking for credentials for the data in a timely fashion. This helped us draw attention to the issue and we are hopeful that we will be able to keep data directories open in a manner that satisfies security concerns. Again, thank you for your patience.

Hello Ron,
Per the message on our website, we were allowed to have that directory unblocked. We have once again made it free and clear for all to use.
